Biography:
Ute Maria Kilian studied Public Administration after her professional training with the municipality of Duisburg - North Rhine Westphalia. After completing her tertiary studies, her first post was in the Duisburg Lord Mayor's office where she was responsible for protocol and international city partnerships. Later, she accepted a position within the Chancellery of North Rhine Westphalia where she worked for 7 years as member of the staff of Premier Johannes Rau.
In 1997 Ute Maria Kilian moved to Africa to gather new professional experiences in the field of development cooperation. She first worked in Benin, West Africa, as a consultant for the German Development Service (DED). Afterwards she worked in Chad as an advisor and project manager for the Association des Femmes Juristes du Tchad - a women lawyers association in N'Djaména. Upon her return to Germany in 2000, Ute Maria Kilian was appointed executive manager of the Heinz-Kühn Foundation in Düsseldorf. Beside German as her native language she is also fluent in French, English and Portuguese. |
